The entrance to the ruins of Pompeii is through Porta Marina. The entrance is composed of two openings covered by a
single vault. The small door was for pedestrians and the larger door was for
animals and vehicles.
Vehicles can be used to drive to Pompeii though and the closest car park is one to the main entrance (Porta Marina). Travelling through the ruins walking and bicycles are prohibited. and most of the roads are quite narrow.
